Bonding Strength Test

Testing Sample 1: Prior to the Shear Strength test, the bottom cladding layer and core aluminum layer was cut away from a section, and the top cladding copper was cut away from an adjacent section.

After applying a large amount of shear force to the test sections, the aluminum core is broken off and deformed while copper remains unchanged. Bonding layer remains attached to the copper, indicating an interfacial bonding strength higher than the intrinsic bonding strength of aluminum.

After applying a large amount of shear force to the test sections, the copper section is broken and the aluminum is deformed. Even though the copper has broken, the bimetallic bond did not break and the layers are not separated.
